Details of the NextGRID vision and how it has been realised through the NextGRID architecture are available at http://www.nextgrid.org/white_paper.html. Also, implementations of NextGRID components are available under appropriate licence terms via the page http://www.nextgrid.org/appendix_d/appendix_d.html.

The purpose of the NextGRID Cookbook is to present the basic building blocks of a Grid architecture that follows the NextGRID Architectural principles. For each one of these building blocks the Cookbook describes its functionalities and provides the design of its interfaces. Furthermore, the Cookbook, along with a set of specifications, profiles the way that these building blocks communicate to each other so that systems of varying complexity can be built to satisfy the needs of particular applications.. In this way, the Cookbook comprises general considerations about how to instantiate a NextGrid Architecture to an audience which has a basic understanding of Service Oriented Architectures.

The components presented in this cookbook can be combined to produce an environment for the provision and use of IT services in a manner consistent with the NextGRID architectural principles and oriented towards business scenarios. The components offer extensive capabilities for service construction and composition. The NextGRID Cookbook offers complete guidelines to design and implement these components and construct Grids from them. It provides extended examples which demonstrate how this can be done.

The main concepts that govern the Cookbook are:
